About Us

Computer Associates of Madurai Society (CAMS) is an organisation of entities engaged in IT Hardware  Business in Madurai District. CAMS Association is registered as a society. CAMS is the Oldest Association which  was formed way back in 1989 to promote Computerisation in south Tamil Nadu and to address the challenges faced by its members.

The very first time Five young visionary leaders Mr. Bose of Computers India, Mr. Ravi of Seayali Computers and peripherals, Mr. Kalyan of S K Marketing,Thambi Durai of Padhali automations and Mr. Kannan of Ambal Traders thought of forming an association, uniting Computer, Peripherals and Consumable dealers into the association.

There were no Computer show rooms like what we see today. The business owners used to knock door by door to educate and demonstrate the importance of Computerising their business. People used to wait for months together to get the ordered computers to get delivered. The founder members felt that to reach the people in mass they need to organise Computer trade Expos and the very first Computer Trade Expo was held during the month of Feb 1992 at Hotel Ashok (Hotel Ashok is Hotel Sangam Today). CAMS Computer Trade Expos are being contacted mostly year on year till today.

Information Technology Industry is the one which grows very fast. Technology upgrades day by day in our industry and to sell and support training is more important to dealers. CAMS started organising training programs along with our principle to ensure our dealers are technically updated since the inception of CAMS. Now-a-days, we do have very frequent training programs and last year (2011-2012) alone we had about 50 such meetings.

CAMS never hesitated to take social responsibility, during the hard times of Tsunami our members generously contributed money and a team went to Tsunami affected area under the leadership of Mr. Kalyan. During the land slide at Ooty our association donated a lump sum. CAMS started contacting blood donation and eye check-up camps under the leadership of Mr. Ravikumar, Pentagon and Mr. Renganathan of Ateam Enterprises.

During the year 2006 to safeguard our members’ business against anti-piracy riots, CAMS took immediate and appropriate action. Then President Mr. Selvasekaran, DOT Electronics Secretary Mr. Muthuswamy, Softech and Treasure Mr. Jeganath Asian Computers felt to have a amalgamation of Computer Associations of other Cities in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry and as a result “Confed-ITA” is born. To address the thread of business loss by LFRs and online sales, we worked for a All India amalgamation of Computer traders association and formed South India Information Technology Association counsel along with Confed-ITA.

CAMS association works to ensure that none of our member fails in business by providing required support in the form of Technology update, effective communication and to the effect CAMS-Madurai Google group was created during 2007 – 2008 by then Secretary Mr. Muthuswamy.

CAMS was served by the following Presidents and they have contributed a lot to our fraternity.
